“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

John 3:16

For God so loved the world,

Everyone needs to feel loved.  God loves everyone.

For God so loved the world;  the God who created  this universe, the God who created man, the God who spoke all that is into existence.  That God who has always been and shall always be.  That very same God so loves the world.

Who does God love?  For God so loved the world When the Bible says that God loved the world, he isn’t talking about this planet we live on, the dirt and the trees, and he isn’t talking about all the things this world has. Quite simply, when the Bible says that God so loved the world, he is talking about the people of this world.  He’s talking about everyone who has ever lived, everyone who is alive today, and everyone who will ever live in the future, he loves them all.  My friend, if you fall into one of those categories, God loves you too.

How much does God love you?  For God so loved the world;  So - one of the smallest words in the entire verse, but also one of the most powerful.  If I were to tell you that “I love my wife”, you would say; “That’s nice, you should love your wife.”  But if I were to tell you that “I so love my wife”, that one little word elevates the understanding of my feelings to a whole new level.  It means so much more just by adding that one very tiny, very powerful word.  So how much does God love you? The Bible says that God so loves you.  I can’t think of any other way it could be worded that would be able to show more love, a deeper love, a higher love.  God so loved  the world.  God wants you to know you are loved.

that he gave his only begotten Son,

Everyone needs to feel they are worth something.

. . . that he gave his only begotten son; How much are you worth to God?  The Bible teaches us that God looked at man in his sinful and hopeless state and loved us.  The Bible says ". . . the wages of sin is death;" Romans 6:23.  There must be a payment for sin, and sinful man was totally and forever helpless at paying his own sin debt.  God gave his only begotten son to die on the cross as payment for our sin debt.  "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."  II Corinthians 5:21.  God wants us to know that we are of worth to him.  How much are we worth?  We are worth so much, that God was willing to give his only begotten son, to die a gruesome and painful death on a cross in our place.  To pay the sin debt in full for every man, once and forever.  My friend, God wants you to know that you are of worth to Him.

that whosoever believeth in him

What God wants us to do.

that whosoever believeth in him . . . The only thing God asks of us is to believe in his only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  He wants us to believe that He is who He says He is, He did what He says He did, and He did it for the reason He said he did it.  Trust that the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God, died on the cross as payment for our sin debt.  That Jesus paid our sin debt in full, paid a debt He didn't owe, paid our debt that we could not pay ourselves.  Who was this sacrifice paid for?  It was paid for whosoever.  Whosoever means anyone who has the faith to believe in the loving power of an all mighty, all powerful, all caring, and merciful God.  God wants us only to believe.

should not perish,

Saved from the consequence of choosing not to believe.

. . . should not perish;  The Bible teaches us that when we die, we will go to one of two places.  If we place our trust and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we will go to Heaven.  If we choose not to believe, we will spend eternity in a place known as the devils hell.  The Bible tells us that hell is a real place, filled with real people.  Hell is described as a place of fire and brimstone, a place of utter torment and torture. A place where you will burn forever and ever and ever, never to get any kind of relief.  "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8  The Bible teaches that believing in the Lord Jesus will save us from an eternity in a devils hell.

but have everlasting life

Gods  Promised for those who believe.

. . . but have everlasting life;  For those who believe and have put their trust in the only begotten Son of God, Gods Word has promised they will have everlasting life with the Lord Jesus in a place called Heaven.  A place the Bible describes as gates of pearl and streets of gold.  A place the Lord Jesus called paradise as he talked to the thief on the cross,   . . . To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. Luke 23:43.  God has promised everlasting life, all he has asked for is that we believe.....  Trust him today.
